A Tiered Baby Shower Cake!!!

I was SO excited to cater my sister-in-law's recent baby shower. I was thrilled to have another chance to make a tiered cake. She's having a little girl, so there was no question what kind of cake it would be...a pretty-in-pink strawberry cake! I used my very favorite cake recipe - Paula Deen's "Simply Delicious Strawberry Cake." This recipe is SO amazing....it's super easy and always comes out moist and perfect. The real strawberries and cream cheese frosting really make this a stellar cake!
I was also excited to use fondant again...this was only my second time using it. I still haven't perfected the technique, but I was still very happy with the finished cake. It got a lot of "Ooohs" and "Ahhhs" when I took it out of the box! :)
You may remember my very first tiered cake, which was THIS WEDDING CAKE.

I had a lot of fun decorating this one...especially since I used a combination of stripes and circles. I wanted it to be cute and classy! The sheer pink ribbon tied it all together beautifully and the baby blocks on the top tier were the perfect finishing touch.

I also made punch and Cheesecake Pops for the shower. Below, I've included a picture of the cheesecake pops...they are always just as cute as a button! This is the second baby shower I've made these pops for. I also made them for baby Sebastian HERE. They are perfect for this type of event, because you can customize them with any color chocolate or ribbon....plus, they always disappear fast! You can see my original Cheesecake Pops post HERE, which includes a link to the recipe...they are really fun to make!!!

Wow, what a pretty cake! Mad props for making this! I stupidly agreed to make the cake for my best friend's daughter's baptism cake, the planning of which is driving me crazy, and this might just be my lifesaver... One question, though, did you use your strawberry cream cheese frosting underneath the fondant or did you use buttercream? I've found some cream cheese frostings cause the fondant to melt. Help, please.

Thanks to everyone for your comments...they really do make my day! :)

Julia - I'll be very happy to help you! I am definitely no pro, but I'll help however I can. I actually made the two tiers a day ahead and put them in the refrigerator (already frosted)...I did use cream cheese frosting...not buttercream. The fridge hardened the cream cheese frosting just enough, and made it easier to apply the fondant. I added the fondant on the morning of the shower, and left the cake out of the fridge once the fondant was on. This gave the cream cheese frosting time to soften up and was perfect when we cut into it. This particular cake recipe always comes out so moist, and everyone LOVES the flavor! Plus, it's super easy! You might want to make a sample cake a few days ahead, just in case you want to make any changes. Let me know if you have any other questions. You can definitely do it!!! ;) -Celeste

Thank you, Celeste. Looks like my cake may not turn into a disaster after all. I'm going to do a test run this weekend and I'll let you know how that goes.
Thanks again for your help.

Cream Cheese Banana Nut Bread - Southern Living

***There seriously aren't very many things that smell better than Banana Nut Bread baking in the oven.   Don't you agree?  This recipe for Cream Cheese Banana Nut Bread from Southern Living magazine was one of the very first recipes that I added to this blog...back in November 2007!  In fact, I came across it when I worked for the magazine as a Marketing Intern.  Back then, I didn't have a photo for every recipe, and the blog post was simply the recipe and nothing else.  Because this is my go-to recipe for Banana Nut Bread (and because it is so amazing!), I thought that it deserved a little more attention.  This is quite honestly some of the best Banana Nut Bread that I've ever had.  An entire 8oz. package of cream cheese is added right to the batter, along with 4 mashed bananas.  The cream cheese adds so much to this recipe, with an incredibly moist texture being the main component.  Plus, the roasted pecans are the perfect addition.  Roasting the nuts brings out

My Favorite Quiche!

***It's not often that a recipe is worthy of re-posting.  I think I've only done that once or twice in the entire time I've written this blog.  However, this is one of those rare occasions.  Back in 2009 when Brad and I went to Europe, we had the most amazing Quiche Lorraine at the incredible Les Deux Magots cafe in Paris.  It was delicious and was served alongside a yummy salad of fresh greens (Quiche Lorraine sur Salade Verte).  Oh, it was heaven on a plate!  It also didn't hurt that we were sitting on the patio of one of the most famous cafes in Paris, after all...haha.  The atmosphere and people-watching in that particular area are hard to beat. I'll never forget the elderly lady that was sitting at the table right next to us (the tables were situated pretty close together).  She was dressed to-the-nines, was all by herself, and was just the quintessential, classy Parisian lady.  I wish more than anything that I had tried to strike up a conversation with her

Absolutely Sinful Cinnamon Rolls

***Alrighty, here are the cinnamon rolls that I mentioned in my previous post. I put these together on Christmas Eve, and then baked them on Christmas morning. Let me just tell you...there's nothing quite like the smell of yummy cinnamon rolls wafting through the house on Christmas morning...ahhhhh...so wonderful! This is going to be a new tradition for us...fresh, homemade rolls on Christmas. I thought that I might try this recipe, and then maybe try a new one next year...until I found one that I really loved. However, I hit the jackpot on the first try! This is THE recipe that I'll always use. UPDATE:   Since originally writing this post in 2008, I've  made these cinnamon rolls every year for Christmas!  They are a holiday tradition that my family looks forward to all year!  You can see my other posts here, with lots more photos of these sinful cinnamon rolls: CHRISTMAS 2009 CHIRSTMAS 2010 CHRISTMAS 2011 The great thing was that I could prepare them on Christmas
