RIP Our Sweet Hannah

Friends, it's with an incredibly heavy heart that I write this post tonight.  Last Wednesday, our beloved Hannah passed away from what we think was a heart condition.  One minute she was having the time of her life, and the next she was gone.  To say that we're heartbroken is an understatement.  Hannah was an exceptional dog and very, very special to us in every single way.

She was constantly by our side, with tail wagging, and a happy expression on her face.  She had the most remarkable personality and the most sincere eyes you've ever seen on a dog.  Sometimes I was convinced she was more "human" than some humans.  :)  She gave the best puppy hugs and if I so much as sniffled, she rushed to my side to make sure everything was okay.

I sure do miss my sweet girl.

English Springer Spaniels are known for their companionship and loyalty to their owners.  They are simply incredible as a breed, and Hannah was a "field bred" springer.  Brad and I sure did love her to pieces, and losing her has been tough...I mean TOUGH.  Unless you've ever really loved a dog like that, it's hard to understand.  She wasn't just "a dog" to us...She was a huge part of our family.  And as such, it's been like losing a family member.

Coming home to an empty, quiet house isn't easy.  We lost her so suddenly and unexpectedly, which compounds our sadness that much more.  She was only 8 years old.  Losing a beloved dog suddenly like that is something I wouldn't wish on anyone.  We lost our cocker spaniel, Lady, less than a year ago.  That was terribly difficult as well, but we're fortunate that she lived a long, happy life.  Hannah was just taken from us way too soon.  She was right by our sides when it happened, and for that, I am grateful.

So friends, if you are a dog owner, go give your pup a huge hug and belly rub for me.  I'd do anything for one more "Hannah Hug".

Here are a few more photos of our beautiful girl:

Hannah LOVED going on walks every night around the neighborhood.  She looked forward to her nightly walk with us all day long (and so did Brad and I).  We had to actually spell the word "W-A-L-K" when she was around, because if she heard us say it, she'd go into an excited, happy frenzy.  Here she is on a hike...one of her favorite things ever.

Me and my sweet pup

This sofa was definitely "hers".

She never missed anything...always attentive!

This video always puts a smile on my face:

It has been three years since we lost our Tyler (Comfort Retriever - Retriever/Spaniel Mix), and I STILL have a picture of her as the wallpaper on my computer so I can say good night to her before shutting down for the day. It really is like losing a family member. So sorry that you lost both in such a short span, but glad she went quickly and while having fun with you rather than after a long illness and any accompanying pain. {HUGS}

So very hard to lose a family member. We still miss our son's cat that passed away a couple of years ago. She took such good care of Chris, putting him to bed and jut wanting to be near him.Praying for you.

My thoughts and prayers are being sent to you regarding the loss of your beloved Hannah. We lost our Golden Retreiver, Tucker at 12 years old to the same problem. There is nothing more devastating than the loss of our most loved four legged family members.

So sorry to hear of you losing a very beloved family member. I'm a cat person and it's the same for us as well. I still miss my beloved duchess and she's been gone for many years now. She was my constant companion since I was seven. She lived 14 years and was with me before I got married and had children. She meant everything to me. You don't ever stop missing your pet but somehow through the years you get use to being without them. Cherish your beautiful memories of her. She'll live in your heart forever. =)
I'm so sorry for your loss! I'm sure this must be so difficult! I can't imagine the devastation you must be feeling! Thoughts and prayers sent your way!

I am so sorry for your incredible loss. We have a springer spaniel, as well, (even a liver and white one like Hannah) and know exactly how special they are. You will be in my prayers during this time of incredible loss.

This is my first time on your blog but I am very sorry to hear about your dog. I know how it feels to lose a dog and it hurts. But think of all the lovely times you had with her and let that bring you some comfort.

I came here through Pinterest to get one of your recipes & saw your post on your sweet Hannah. I am so sorry for your loss. Many people don't understand it, but they obviously have never loved a dog the way some of us do. I lost my precious Boxer to cancer when she was just 4. I have never felt so much pain in my life - then God saw fit to ease my pain by bringing a baby into mine & my husband's lives. It was such an unexpected blessing, but I sure needed it. My husband also made me get another dog (who I hated in the beginning because I felt like he was trying to taker her place). Fortunately I gave in & fell in love with the new dog & now I couldn't imagine my life without him! He has also been amazing with our son when he was born & they have grown up together! I'm so sorry you are having to deal with such a difficult loss. Prayers for you all!
I'm so sorry for your loss. Sweet puppies have a way of leaving a hole in our lives when they are gone.

I am incredibly sorry to hear about your loss. My husband and I are also dog people who treat our dog like a member of our family. She is more than a pet to us, so I can empathize with the pain you must be feeling. My sincere condolences.

Absolutely Sinful Cinnamon Rolls

***Alrighty, here are the cinnamon rolls that I mentioned in my previous post. I put these together on Christmas Eve, and then baked them on Christmas morning. Let me just tell you...there's nothing quite like the smell of yummy cinnamon rolls wafting through the house on Christmas morning...ahhhhh...so wonderful! This is going to be a new tradition for us...fresh, homemade rolls on Christmas. I thought that I might try this recipe, and then maybe try a new one next year...until I found one that I really loved. However, I hit the jackpot on the first try! This is THE recipe that I'll always use. UPDATE:   Since originally writing this post in 2008, I've  made these cinnamon rolls every year for Christmas!  They are a holiday tradition that my family looks forward to all year!  You can see my other posts here, with lots more photos of these sinful cinnamon rolls: CHRISTMAS 2009 CHIRSTMAS 2010 CHRISTMAS 2011 The great thing was that I could prepare them on Christmas

My Favorite Quiche!

***It's not often that a recipe is worthy of re-posting.  I think I've only done that once or twice in the entire time I've written this blog.  However, this is one of those rare occasions.  Back in 2009 when Brad and I went to Europe, we had the most amazing Quiche Lorraine at the incredible Les Deux Magots cafe in Paris.  It was delicious and was served alongside a yummy salad of fresh greens (Quiche Lorraine sur Salade Verte).  Oh, it was heaven on a plate!  It also didn't hurt that we were sitting on the patio of one of the most famous cafes in Paris, after all...haha.  The atmosphere and people-watching in that particular area are hard to beat. I'll never forget the elderly lady that was sitting at the table right next to us (the tables were situated pretty close together).  She was dressed to-the-nines, was all by herself, and was just the quintessential, classy Parisian lady.  I wish more than anything that I had tried to strike up a conversation with her

Cream Cheese Banana Nut Bread - Southern Living

***There seriously aren't very many things that smell better than Banana Nut Bread baking in the oven.   Don't you agree?  This recipe for Cream Cheese Banana Nut Bread from Southern Living magazine was one of the very first recipes that I added to this blog...back in November 2007!  In fact, I came across it when I worked for the magazine as a Marketing Intern.  Back then, I didn't have a photo for every recipe, and the blog post was simply the recipe and nothing else.  Because this is my go-to recipe for Banana Nut Bread (and because it is so amazing!), I thought that it deserved a little more attention.  This is quite honestly some of the best Banana Nut Bread that I've ever had.  An entire 8oz. package of cream cheese is added right to the batter, along with 4 mashed bananas.  The cream cheese adds so much to this recipe, with an incredibly moist texture being the main component.  Plus, the roasted pecans are the perfect addition.  Roasting the nuts brings out
